Anson Williams

Williams was the son of Anson William Heimlich, who was a Jewish family. His father, Haskell Heimlich altered the spelling of his name to "Heimlick" Heimlick, which is distinct from the name of Williams's Uncle Dr. Henry Heimlich who is the creator of the Heimlich maneuver to treat choke victims. Williams attended Burbank High School, where he was captain of the track team. He also acted in multiple school productions. He was in the McDonald's commercial in the year 1971, along with John Amos. In 1972, Williams played Potsie Weber in the segment of the comedy anthology show Love, American Style, "Love and the Happy Days", in which Richie Cunningham (Ron Howard) and Richie's mother Marion Ross (Marion Ross) were introduced. Other characters who were later made into the television series Happy Days included Williams. The only exception was that neither Williams, Howard, or Ross reprised their roles in the new series' debut episode. Eventually, as main character Arthur "Fonzie" Fonzarelli (Henry Winkler) as well as Richie's mother, father and sister gained popularity, Potsie was joined by Ralph Malph (Don Most, who was merely a side character in the first season), and Potsie and Ralph became the most enduring pair.
