Anson Williams

Williams was the son of Anson William Heimlich, who was a Jewish family. His father, Haskell Heimlich legally altered the spelling of his name to "Heimlick" in contrast to Williams's uncle, Dr. Henry Heimlich, the inventor of the Heimlich technique to treat choke victims. Williams was a student at Burbank High School where he was a coach of the track team. He also appeared in a variety of school productions. He was in an McDonald's commercial in 1971 alongside John Amos. In 1972, Williams played Potsie Weber in the the comedy-anthology show Love, American Style. Richie Cunningham (Ron Howard) and Richie's mother Marion (Marion Ross) as well as a variety of other characters were featured in the show. The only exception was that Williams, Howard, or Ross reprised their roles. The initial season of the brand new series that aired, where Williams was second in line following Howard's, was focused around Richie, Potsie, and their relationship. When Arthur Fonzie Fonzarelli, Richie's mother, father and sister gained more fame, Potsie was joined in the second season by Ralph Malph (Don Most), and Potsie became a couple that was inseparable.
