The first therapeutic diet designed for children with epilepsy has enough protein to aid in the body's development and repair. It also contains enough calories [Note 1] to maintain an ideal body weight and height. The first ketogenic diet for therapeutic use was developed in 1920 to aid in the treatment of epilepsy in children. It gained popularity in the following decade because of the availability of anticonvulsant medications that were effective. The ketogenic diet is a classic one, with the ratio of carbohydrate to fat, or the weight of fat. This is achieved by reducing carbohydrate-rich foods such as pasta, bread and sugar, as well as vegetables, starchy fruits bread, grains, and bread and increasing the intake of fats like cream, butter, and nuts. 1. The majority of the fat in your diet is made up of long-chain triglycerides (LCTs) molecules. Medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), which are composed of fatty acids that contain shorter carbon chains than LCTs are more ketogenic. MCT ketogenic diet is a variation of the traditional diet which makes use of coconut oil. It is high in MCTs and has approximately half the calories. The diet permits an increased intake of carbohydrates as well as protein and general fats, meaning that you are able to eat more diverse foods.
