 Game of Thrones, an American fantasy drama TV series, was created by David Benioff for HBO. The show is a remake of A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin. The first novel in the series is A Game of Thrones. The series was filmed in the United Kingdom, Canada, Croatia, Iceland, Malta, Morocco, and Spain. The show debuted on HBO the USA on April 17, 2011 and ended on May 19, 2019. It has seventy-three episodes over the course of eight seasons. The Iron Throne of Seven Kingdoms of Westeros is the first major arc. It involves a string of political disputes between noble families that or fight for the throne or are fighting to become distinct from the one that holds it. The second is about the last descendant from the deposed ruling dynasty of the kingdom, who was exiled in Essos and is aiming to be crowned. The Night's Watch is a military organisation that protects the kingdom from threats beyond Westeros's northern boundaries. Game of Thrones has an active and diverse fan base. The show has been praised by critics for its intricate characters, acting as well as its story, character, and production values. There were some criticisms of its usage of violence and sexuality (including sexual violence). The finale received a an adversity from critics due to its reduced length and creative decisions, and many deemed it a disappointing conclusion. The drama series received the highest number of Emmy Awards, with 59 Primetime Emmy Awards.
