Gutierrez attended with his father during several WWE events before becoming an official wrestler. He was on the show on June 5, 2003 edition of SmackDown! in Anaheim, California where his father was awarded the WWE Cruiserweight Championship from Matt Hardy. When SmackDown! aired, he had a celebration with his dad. The show was cancelled. His first storyline was in 2005 as part of a storyline with his father and Eddie Guerrero in which the two rivals fought over custody. Guerrero declared that he was Dominik's biological father during the storyline. On the 21st of August, Mysterio defeated Guerrero in the ladder match for custody of Dominik at SummerSlam.He made two more appearances in 2006, first at WrestleMania 22 alongside Angie and Aalyah watching his father take home the World Heavyweight Championship for the first time. The second was in the SmackDown! September 15 episode of SmackDown! where he watched backstage as his father wrestled Mr. Kennedy. He appeared again in the march 12, 2010 episode of SmackDown which was aired in the feud between Rey Mysterio and the Straight Edge Society (CM Punk, Luke Gallows, and Serena)
