Bryant was born in Los Angeles, California on May 5 1982. Her ethnicity is Mexican American. As a young girl and her parents divorced, she was born. Her father was her biological father. who was also divorced by her parents, relocated to Baja California. Sophie is her elder sister. Her mother worked as an electronics company's shipping clerk. Her mother got married to Stephen Laine in 1990. Stephen Laine was also a middle-manager for the electronics company that she was employed by. Following her wedding she started going under the name Laine and changed her name to Vanessa Marie Laine. She did not get adopted by her stepfather. She resided alongside Robert Laine, her step-grandfather and step-grandfather in Huntington Beach, California. The home of her family was located situated in Garden Grove. Bryant was a student at Marina High School. In the month of August, 1999 Bryant went to a hip-hop performance at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre with Rowena Ireifej. A company approached them offering them the opportunity to work as music video extras or back-up dancers. Bryant was featured in music videos with artists such as Krayzie Bone, Snoop Dogg and her mother. Bryant met Kobe Bryant during the filming of his "G'd up" music video. Bryant was unable to go to high school because of the famous affair. Bryant decided to continue her high school year at home and pursue her studies on her own. In 2000, she graduated from high school with distinction.
