Lauren Schmidt Hissrich created The Witcher The Witcher, a TV series that focuses on fantasy dramas for Netflix. The show is based on the Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski's novel series. The Witcher is set on an imaginary landmass known as the Continent and explores the myths of Geralt of Rivia (Yennefer of Vengerberg) and Princess Ciri. The show stars Henry Cavill and Anya Chalotra. The series premiered on Netflix on December 20 2019. The show was inspired by The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny collections of short stories which preceded the primary The Witcher story. The second season was also eight episodes long and inspired by Blood of Elves. It was released on the 17th of December, 2021. Netflix renewed the show in September 2021 to air the third season. The third season will premiere in the middle of 2023. The third season is scheduled to air in mid-2023 with Liam Hemsworth playing the role Geralt from Rivia. An animated film based on the origin story named The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf was released on August 23rd, 2021. The Witcher: Blood Origin was released as a prequel miniseries on December 25, 2022.
