Tomoya Okazaki is the principal character in the Clannad visual novel. He is an student in the Hikarizaka high school, and is described as a delinquent who frequently shows up late to school and is absent from classes, but not as someone who starts fights. When he was a child his mother Atsuko was killed in a vehicle accident. Tomoya lives with his father, Naoyuki, since then. They fight constantly. Tomoya's desire to play professional basketball ended after he hurt his shoulder in a dispute with his father.Throughout the visual novel Tomoya is presented with, and solves the majority of his friends issues. He is a childhood friend to Kotomi Ichinose, and is best buddies with Moonohara, Youhei. At the start of the graphic novel Tomoya encounters Nagisa Furukawa, who is his friend of choice, and later his girlfriend/wife.In After Story, Tomoya becomes an electrician after graduating from high school. He is married to Nagisa, and they have a daughter named Ushio. Tomoya helps Nagisa as she grows ill during her pregnancy, but she dies after giving birth. Tomoya is depressed and decides to leave Ushio's care to Akio as well as Sanae. In the future, Tomoya realizes that he's placing Ushio through the same kind of relationship he and his father shared and soon becomes a better father. After Ushio passes away, Tomoya realizes that Ushio is the Girl in the Illusionary World. The use of light orbs in order to reverse the clock to bring back the time back to the day that Nagisa is still in labor. This stops Ushio and Ushio's death. Tomoya ends up living with his wife and daughter in an uninvolved family.
