Suicide of Ronnie McNutt

On August 31, 2020, McNutt began a livestream on the social media platform Facebook. Joshua Steen, his best friend, viewed the livestream. Although he initially found it quite normal since McNutt previously had livestreamed before however, he was surprised to discover that McNutt was drunk and holding a single-shot gun. [2] Steen was alleged to have tried intervening several times, especially when McNutt fired the shotgun incorrectly, hoping that Facebook would shut down the stream and end the video feed, preventing anyone from looking into McNutt's residence while Steen was attempting to get police involvement. Facebook refused to stop the stream, saying that it was not in breach of its rules. Heavy reports suggest that although Facebook initially was unable to stop McNutt's suicide plan and then failure, it eventually allowed the stream to be shared through its platform. McNutt's cell phone kept ringing frequently as the video stream progressed. McNutt was contacted by his ex-girlfriend. She called him back, and he was able to answer. The call caused a brief conflict between the two. When his girlfriend was about to hang up the phone on McNutt and he yelled "Hey guys I guess that's it." Then he shot himself on the chin which caused his dog to wander into the room. The shot cut his face in half and blew his face. The livestream was filmed by multiple attending parties. 8] The New Albany Police Department was called to the incident during the livestream however, they did not go into McNutt's home until after he had died. Police Chief Chris Robertson had secured the perimeter, evacuating nearby residents, and trying to connect with McNutt through a speakerphone, but to no avail.
