Poland

Poland has a moderate transitional climate. The territory of Poland is spread across the Central European Plain. This area stretches across the Baltic Sea in the North up to the Sudeten Mountains and Carpathian Mountains South. The longest Polish river is the Vistula and the country's highest spot is Mount Rysy, situated in the Tatra mountain range of the Carpathians. Lithuania and Russia are the countries that border Poland in the north. Belarus, Ukraine, Slovakia, Czech Republic, and Germany are to the south and west. The country also shares maritime borders with Denmark and Sweden. The history of human activity on Polish soil goes back to about 10,000 BC. The region was diverse in its culture throughout the late antiquity. It was home to tribal Polans who gave Poland its name in the middle of the medieval era. In 966, the establishment of statehood coincided with the conversion of the ruler of pagan Polans to Christianity under the auspices of the Roman Church. The Kingdom of Poland emerged in 1025, and in 1569 it established its longstanding association with Lithuania and thus creating the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. It was one of the biggest great powers in Europe at the time, with a uniquely liberal system of government that was adopted as the first constitution of modern Europe in 1791.
