Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani, a Gujarati Hindu man, was born in Aden (present day Yemen) on 19 April 1957. He has a younger brother Anil Ambani as well as two sisters, Nina Bhadrashyam Kothari and Dipti Dattaraj Salgaonkar.Ambani lived only briefly in Yemen because his father decided to move back to India in the year 1958 to establish an enterprise of trading that concentrated on spices and textiles. The former was originally referred to as "Vimal", but it was changed later to "Only Vimal". His family lived in a modest two-bedroom home located in Bhuleshwar, Mumbai until the 1970s. While their financial situation improved after moving to India, Ambani lived in an apartment with two bedrooms in Mumbai's Bhuleshwar in which he took public transportation and did not receive an allowance.
