Talackova was then in contact with Gloria Allred, a lawyer who challenged the organizers of the pageant and the future president Donald Trump as the owner of the International Miss Universe Organization. Allred was able to overturn the decision and grant Talackova the possibility of competing. The organization reversed its decision before the case went to the court. Trump's office released an announcement Jenna Talackova is eligible to participate at Miss Universe Canada 2012 as provided she meets Canada's legal gender recognition requirements. Talackova was among the Top 12 at the May 19 pageant in 2012, however, she was not able to get to the top 5. In appreciation of her efforts to be a part of Miss Universe, she was one of four contestants who were named Miss Congeniality. Talackova was however named co-grand marshal of the 2012 Vancouver Pride Parade.
