French Gates started her professional career by teaching math to children and computer programming. She was in charge of developing multimedia products . She was a Microsoft marketing manager after she graduated. Encarta, Publisher, Encarta, Encarta, Encarta, Encarta, Microsoft Bob, Money, Works Macintosh, and Word were only some of her titles. She was also employed by Expedia which is one of the world's most well-known travel sites. French Gates was named General Manager of Information Products in the early 1990s. She was in that post until the year the year 1996. French Gates reportedly left Microsoft to have a baby. Since 2004, she's been an active part of the Graham Holdings Board of Directors (formerly The Washington Post Company). She is also a participant in the Bilderberg Group annual conference. Additionally, she was a part of the Drugstore.com board of directors, however, she resigned in the summer of 2006 to focus on charitable causes. French Gates has been an active public figure since 2000. She said "As I was thinking about strong women from the past I realized that they had stepped out in a particular manner." Her efforts have been acknowledged and has helped define and achieve the objectives of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The year 2014 was the first time Bill and Melinda had donated US$28 billion of their personal assets to the Foundation. French Gates, a man who had been the inheritor of a large amount of wealth, established Pivotal Ventures in 2015 to assist in the search for, developing innovative solutions to problems facing women in America as well as their families.
