Kjellberg shared a video on her channel on the 22nd of October 2018, announcing her decision to retire. In the video, she said that at one point in her YouTube career, focusing on the site kept her in a state of mind that negatively affected her mental health and she was determined to help others. She concluded her video with a statement she was ready to "take the next step" in her personal life. Her last vlog was uploaded and decided to delete the videos. One comment was left on the video, stating that "having videos on the internet after this decision could have been like taking another step back." I've selected a few that I really liked, which I'm planning to keep for a while - during the adjustment period but removing them I felt it was something that had to be completed." In the hours prior to her announcement her YouTube channel had over 128,000,000 video views and just below 7.5 million subscribers. Her YouTube channel's views increased to 570 million in August 2017.
