After a stellar performance in Europe's Strongest Man in the previous year, Luke competed in his first World's Strongest Man. Although Luke was not able to reach the finals, he managed gain invaluable experience and begin to gain attention internationally. He climbed his BSM rank (4th) and, at WSM in 2017, he placed third in his heat, ahead of the future WSM champions Hafthor Bjornsson, and Martins Licis. He was disappointed that he finished 6th in BSM in 2018, having was beaten by Robert Oberst and Zydrunas Svickas who both are four-time WSM winners. Luke's work was to be off-site for up to three weeks , without having access to training equipment. He also fell to Robert Oberst who is a four-time winner of the WSM, and finished in a disappointing 6th place at BSM. Luke was able to be a part of the WSM finals as a professional during his debut year. He placed 7th overall, with his Tom, his younger brother Tom who placed 5th. The two were the first brothers and sister to make it to the WSM final and earned them the title "The World's Strongest Brothers'.
