Leonardo di Ser Piero da Vinci[b] (15 April 1452 until 2 May 1519) was an Italian polymath of the High Renaissance who was active as artist, draughtsman scientist, engineer, theorist, sculptor, and architect. While his fame initially rested on his accomplishments as artist, he later was known for his notebooks where he sketched notes and drawings on a range of subjects, including anatomy, astronomy, cartography, botany, painting and paleontology. Leonardo is generally regarded to be a Renaissance humanist genius. His entire work contains notes and drawings on various topics. He was raised in Florence by Andrea del Verrocchio, an Italian artist and sculptor. He started his career in the city, but later spent much time working for Ludovico Sforza in Milan. He worked again in Florence and Milan, and briefly in Rome. All the while, he attracted a large amount of followers and students. Francis I invited him to France which he stayed for the last three years of his existence. The year 1519 was the year he died. After his demise, there hasn't been a time where his accomplishments, pursuits, personal lives, and logical thinking have not failed to incite interest and admiration, which has made him a frequent namesake and cultural subject.
