Kyrie Andrew Irving (/'kaIri/; Lakota: Hela, lit. 'Little Mountain'; born March 23 1992) is an American professional basketball player with the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). After being chosen by the Cleveland Cavaliers as the first overall pick during their NBA draft in 2011 and was named the Rookie of Year. Seven-time All-Star and three-time member of the All-NBA Team, he won an NBA championship with the Cavaliers in 2016.Irving played in the NCAA basketball tournament for the Duke Blue Devils before joining the Cavaliers in the year 2011. He was awarded the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award at during the 2014 All-Star Game. In the 2016 NBA Finals, Irving made the winning three-point field shot in the final stages of the Cavaliers' historic comeback over the Golden State Warriors. After another Finals appearance in 2017, Irving asked for a trade, and was traded to the Boston Celtics. After playing as a Celtic for two seasons, he signed as a free agent with the Brooklyn Nets in 2019. He also played for the United States National Team, winning gold at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup as in the 2016 Summer Olympics. He was elected vice-president of the National Basketball Players Association in February of 2020, succeeding Pau Gasol.
