Katy Perry

Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, born October 25, 1984 is an American performer, songwriter and TV host. She is well-known for her influence on pop music of the present and her campy style, she has been called the "Queen of Camp" by Vogue. Pursuing a career in gospel music when she was the age of 16, Perry released her debut album, Katy Hudson, under Red Hill Records in 2001 but it was not a success commercially. When she was 17, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue secular music. Then she took on the stage name "Katy Perry", which was her mother's maiden name. She recorded an album while being signed to Columbia Records, but was dismissed before signing with Capitol Records. She rose to fame through One of the Boys (2008), a pop rock record containing the debut track "I Kissed a Girl" and the follow-up track "Hot n Cold" that reached the top of the charts at number one and three on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 respectively. The disco-influenced album Teenage Dream (2010) spawned five U.S. number one singles--"California Gurls", "Teenage Dream", "Firework", "E.T. ", and "Last Friday Night(T.G.I.F. )"--becoming the first album by a female artist to do so. Teenage Dream:The Complete Confection (2012) was a reissue of this album. It was the source of "Part of Me" which was the U.S. number-one single. The album, which was a celebration of empowerment, Prism (2013) had two U.S. number one singles "Roar" and "Dark Horse". Both their respective music videos made Perry the first musician to have multiple videos surpass one billion views on Vevo. Witness the album, which was electropop with feminist themes, featured a political message and Smile (2020), was inspired by her recent motherhood experience and the journey to mental health. After that, she began her Las Vegas concert residency titled Play (2021-present) which was a huge success, earning praise from critics and commercial success.
