Katharine Juliet Ross (born January 29th, 1940) is an American stage, film and TV actress. One Academy Award nomination, one BAFTA Award and two Golden Globe Awards are just a few of her accolades. Ross is from Los Angeles and spent her childhood in the San Francisco Bay Area. Ross was a student at Santa Rosa Junior College for one year before joining The Actors Workshop in San Francisco. She also had supporting parts in Mister Buddwing (1965), The Singing Nun (1966) and Curtis Harrington's Games (1967) the latter of which was a suspense film starring James Caan, Simone Signoret and Curtis Harrington. On the advice of Signoret, Ross was cast as Elaine Robinson in Mike Nichols comedy-drama The Graduate (1967), which earned her significant critical acclaim, including an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress and an Academy Award nomination, a BAFTA nomination, and Golden Globe win for New Star of the Year. In 1968, Ross co-starred in the John Wayne movie Hellfighters playing his daughter Tish Buckman. Further recognition came for her roles in two western films in 1969: Tell Them Willie Boy is Here and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
