John Christopher Depp II, born on June 9, 1963 is an American actor. Numerous awards have been presented to Depp such as the Screen Actors Guild Award and the Golden Globe Award. He was also nominated for three Academy Awards, two BAFTA Awards and Platoon (1986). Depp became famous for his role as an 21 Jump Street teen idol (1987-1990). Depp was a principal actor in independent films, frequently with eccentric directors in the 1990s. Cry-Baby (1990), Cry-Baby? (1993), Benny and Joon (93), Dead Man (1995), Donnie Brasco (1997), Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas (1998). Depp began his long-running collaboration with Tim Burton by portraying the characters in the film Edward Scissorhands (1990), Ed Wood (944) and Sleepy Hollow (99). In the late 2000s, Depp was also a actor in the Walt Disney swashbuckler series Pirates of the Caribbean (2003–2017). Depp also received praise for his roles in Chocolat (2000, Finding Neverland (2004) and Public Enemies (2008). Depp continued his commercially successful partnership with Tim Burton on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2006) in which he played Willy Wonka and Corpse Bride (2005) and Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street(2007).
