William Henry Cosby Jr. (/kazbi/KOZ-bee 12 July 1937) was a famous American actor, comedian and media celebrity. He played a major role in contributing to American as well as African American culture, and was given the title "America's Dad" because of his role as Cliff Huxtable on The Cosby Show (1984-1992). He was awarded many honorary degrees and awards during his entire career. A number of them were cancelled following sexual assault allegations were made against his character in 2014. He released several stand-up comedy albums which brought him the Grammy Award in 1965 and 1970. He also appeared in the crime drama I Spy (1965-1968), alongside Robert Culp. Cosby was an early pioneer in acting on television when he was awarded the Primetime Emmy Award in 1966 for Outstanding Lead Actor in the field of Drama Series.
