Her current position is as a visiting research Fellow in King's College London. She was previously a teacher at the Cambridge University's Institute of Continuing Education and an honorary fellow at Cardiff University. In 2012 she was awarded the Norton Medlicott Award in recognition of contributions to the history of the Historical Association. She was awarded the Naomi Sargant Special Award for her excellence in broadcasting educational in 2009 as well as the Norton Medlicott Awards for historical service by the Historical Association in 2012. In 2010, she presented the Hellenic Institute's Tenth Annual Lecture "Ta Erotika, The Things of Love" and in 2011, she gave the Huw Wheldon Memorial lecture at the Royal Television Society. In these lectures, she stated that the history of television is flourishing and enjoying an exciting new golden age. She was the chairperson of the 2011 Orange Prize for Fiction. It is the only annual prize for fiction written exclusively by women. She is patron of The Iris Project, which encourages the teaching of Latin as well as Greek in UK public schools. She also serves as an honorary patron of Classics For All. This is a nationwide campaign to bring classical language and ancient civilisations' education returning to state schools. She serves as an advisor to the Foundation for Science, Technology and Civilisation that aims to promote large-scale collaboration across East and West. On March 3, 2017, she was appointed a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London.
