The stories describe the girls' adaptation to a new environment and new people, including some with a questionable memory. In the town, they meet new friends , like Olivia and Nikki. Olivia's grandmother has a business along with Flora's and Ruby's grandmother.After having completed the Baby-Sitters Club series, Ann M. Martin began the Main Street series. In one of her interviews, she mentioned that she adored small towns. Camden Falls was named after Woodstock located in New York. The grandmother began a sewing shop because of her passion for sewing. The books have at one time or another discussed nearly every shop and individual in the town. Martin states that Martin was forced to create an entirely new town, which was quite enjoyable. Each book contains a detailed map of the area.
