Anna (Frozen)

Anna of Arendelle (/'a:n@/) is a fictional character appearing in Walt Disney Animation Studios' 53rd animated film Frozen (2013) and its sequel and the 58th animated film Frozen II (2019). The voice of Anna is provided by Kristen Bell as an adult. Livvy Subenrauch as well as Katie Lopez are her singing and speaking voices from her time as a child. Agatha Lee Monn portrayed her as a nine-year-old (singing). In Frozen II, Hadley Gannaway recorded her voice as a child, and Stubenrauch is the archive audio.Created by co-writers and directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, Anna is loosely based on Gerda who is a character in the Danish fairytale "The Snow Queen" by Hans Christian Andersen. The Disney film adaptation portrays Anna as the princess of Arendelle. Anna is the youngest sister of Elsa (Idina Mezel) who is the heir to the throne, and is the only one who has the power of creating and controlling ice and snow. After Elsa mistakenly sends Arendelle to the depths of winter, Anna, a fearless and faithful girl, sets off on a risky journey to rescue her sister and save her kingdom. The original fairytale and the character of Snow Queen were difficult to make into an epic feature. Film executives, including Walt Disney, made their attempts to adapt the story, but many adaptations were discarded because the film makers were unable to figure out the characters. Directors Buck and Lee finally solved the problem by presenting Anna (and Elsa) as sisters and developing a dynamic connection between the characters.
