 Hayes gained first popularity with songs "The Streets", and "STFU". After collaborating on slam poetry and writing in collaboration with Lil Baby, he signed to Lil Baby's 4 Pockets Full (4PF) and Yo Gotti's Collective Music Group (CMG), in conjunction with Interscope Records.featured on Lil Baby's track "We Paid" in May 2020, peaking at 10th on the Billboard Hot 100. This helped boost sales for the mixtape Young & Turnt 2, peaking at number at 58 on the Billboard 200 and number six on Billboard's Independent Albums chart. Hayes continued to enjoy this success by performing guest appearances on songs for other artists, including Marshmello, Lil Keed, Meek Mill, Blac Youngsta, Big Sean, T.I., Kaash Paige, Tory Lanez and Latto. Three people were injured during an attack on Roddy Ricch's and 42 duggs shooting of a music video in Atlanta on the 21st of February 2021. OMB Peezy was later charged for the shooting in connection with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possessing a firearm in the accomplice of a crime. All three injured survived. In May 2021, Billboard declared 42 Duke to be the "R&B/Hip-Hop Rookies of the Month". Dugg also released the 19-track mixtape called Free Dem Boyz on May 21st 2021. It was a tribute to his friends in prison. The mixtape includes the "standout" single, "4 da Gang" with Roddy Ricch, and also other guest features from Lil Durk, Rowdy Rebel and Fivio Foreign.Also in 2021 he was included on the annual XXL Freshman Class
