Collins was an artist on his own who had seven US top-ten singles as well as three UK top 40 hits between 1982 between 1982 and 1990. If his time with Genesis, his work with other artists and also his own career is totalled and he scored the most US top 40 singles than anyone else during the 1980s. [8] His most successful songs from that period comprise "In the Air Tonight", "Against All Odds (Take A Look at Me Now)", "One More Night", and "Another Day in Paradise"Born and raised in West London, Collins played drums at the age of 5 and completed drama school training, which secured him various roles as a child actor, including his first big part at the age of 13 in the role of Artful Dodger in the West End musical Oliver!. He then pursued a music career and joined Genesis in 1970 as their drummer. He then becoming the lead singer in 1975, following the departure of Peter Gabriel. Collins became, in the words of AllMusic, "one of the most successful adult and pop contemporary singers of the '80s and beyond". His distinctive gated reverb drum sound was also the mainstay of his records. He was also the sole performing artist in both Live Aid concerts in 1985. He was also back in acting, playing in Miami Vice (1985) and later in Buster (1988). Collins was forced to leave Genesis in 1996 to concentrate on his solo work. He composed songs for Disney's Tarzan (1999) which for which he won an Oscar for Best Original Song. He rejoined Genesis to perform on their Turn It On Again Tour in 2007.
