Earl Simmons (December 18, 1970 until April 9, 2021), known professionally as DMX (short for "Dark Man X") was an American actor and rapper. His debut album called It's Hot and Dark, was released in 1998 to critical and commercial great success. The album sold more than 251,000 copies in the first week. In 1999, DMX released... and Then There was X. The album included the hit song "Party up (Up in Here). His singles from 2003 "Where the Hood At?" Commercially as well as his 2003 singles "Where the Hood At?" and "X Gon"Give it to Ya" were also very successful. He was the first musician to launch an album at No.1 on the Billboard 200 charts five times consecutively. Overall, DMX sold over 74 million records worldwide.DMX was featured in movies such as Belly, Romeo Must Die, Exit Wounds, Cradle 2 the Grave as well as Last Hour. In 2006, he appeared in the reality TV series DMX: Soul of a Man which was broadcast on the BET cable television network. In 2003, he published a book of his memoirs entitled E.A.R.L. : The Autobiography of DMX. DMX died in April 2021 of an attack of the heart caused by cocaine.
