Crazy Rich

Crazy Rich Asians (2018) is an American romantic comedy-drama film that was directed and written by Jon M. Chu. The film was based on the screenplay by Peter Chiarelli, Adele Lim and a novel written in 2013 written by Kevin Kwan. Constance Wu, Gemma Chan and Ken Jeong star in the film. The story follows a Chinese American professor who visits her boyfriend in order to visit their families. She is shocked to discover that they're one of the richest families in Singapore. The cast was officially signed in the spring of 2017 and filming began in Singapore, Malaysia, and New York City. It is the first major Hollywood studio film that features the majority of Chinese actors since the 1993 film Joy Luck Club. The film was highly praised by critics for its diverse cast, however certain critics expressed concern over the inclusion of actors from different races in specific roles. The film was also criticized for not recognizing Singapore's multiracial community by incorporating characters from other Singaporean ethnicities, like Malay actors as well as Indian actors. The film also propagated stereotypes about East as well as Southeast Asians.
