The Brief is an British crime drama which premiered on ITV 24 April 2004. The show is based on Henry Farmer, a defence barrister (Alan Davies) with a complicated personal life manages to be interspersed with his work. Linda Bassett and Christopher Fulford are also the main characters of the show. The first season, which consisted of just four episodes was a success and received high critical acclaim. The second series, which premiered on the 7th of October, 2005 was not able to achieve the same level of viewership. Davies resigned the role after rumors of Jonathan Creek's return. The third season was not scheduled. The two episodes were released on two DVDs on April 27, 2009, and also digitally through the ITV Store on February 14, 2016.
