Katharine Juliet Ross, born on January 29, 1940 was an American actress on TV, stage and in films. Her accolades include one Academy Award nomination, one BAFTA Award, and two Golden Globe Awards. A native of Los Angeles, Ross spent most of her early life in the San Francisco Bay Area. After going to Santa Rosa Junior College for one year, Ross joined The Actors Workshop in San Francisco, and began appearing in theatrical productions.Ross made her debut film appearance in the drama about the Civil War Shenandoah (1965) as well as had supporting parts in Mister Buddwing (1965) and The Singing Nun (1966) before being cast in Curtis Harrington's Games (1967), a thriller co-starring James Caan and Simone Signoret. Signoret recommended that Ross be part of Mike Nichols' comedy-drama The Graduate (1967). She received a lot of praise from critics, including an Academy Award nomination as Best Supporting Actress, BAFTA nomination as well as a Golden Globe win for New Star of the Year. In 1968, Ross played a part in the John Wayne movie Hellfighters playing his daughter Tish Buckman. Further recognition came for her roles in two western films from 1969: Tell Them Willie Boy is Here as well as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
