James Douglas Muir Leno (/lenoU/; was born on April 28, 1950)[1]is an American comedian actor, writer and host of a television show. He performed as a stand-up comic for a number of years prior to when becoming host of NBC's The Tonight Show, where was he was host until Conan O'Brien took over in 2009. In September 2009, Leno began a primetime talk show, The Jay Leno Show. The show aired on weeknights beginning at 10:10 p.m. ET and is also telecast on NBC. O'Brien's ratings were declining prior to the show's debut on the primetime Tonight Show. O'Brien declined NBC's request for Leno to host a monologue half-hour show prior to The Tonight Show in an attempt to boost ratings, despite reports of a decline in viewership. Leno returned to the show as host on March 1st 2010. 2 On February 6 in 2014, he hosted the final episode of his second stint. He was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame that year. He was also inducted into the Television Hall of Fame the following year. He also writes occasional pieces to The Sunday Times titled "Motormouth".
