Temetrius Jamel"Ja" Morant was born on August 10, 1999 is an American professional basketball player with the Memphis Grizzlies (NBA). He was dubbed "G12" and played in college basketball for the Murray State Racers. As an sophomore in the year 2019 he was a consensus first-team All-American. Even though he was named the All-Region's Most Valuable Player three consecutive times and earning All-State recognition at Crestwood High School, Sumter, South Carolina, Morant was not considered a top player by NCAA Division I programs. He immediately made an impact during his time at Murray State University as a freshman, earning first-team OVC conference awards. The second season of his sophomore year was a huge success. Morant was named the OVC Player of the Year and was the top player in the NCAA in assists. In his sophomore year, Morant also became the first player in NCAA history to score 20plus points and 10plus assists per game. Morant was the second overall selection by the Grizzlies in the 2019 NBA Draft, and was named the NBA rookie of the year in 2020. Morant was selected to the 2022 NBA All Star Game as an active player and received the NBA Most Improved Player Award. Morant was also named for the All-NBA 2022 Team.
