Imelda Romualdez-Marcos (locally I'melda "markos"; born Imelda Visitacion Trinidad Romeldez on July 2nd, 1929) was an influential Filipino politician in the Philippines. She was the First Lady of the Philippines during Ferdinand Marcos' dictatorship. She is also the mother of the current president Bongbong. In her reign of 21 years Imelda Romualdez-Marcos (locally Imelda'markos, born Imelda Remedios Visitacion Trinidad Romeualdez on July 2nd, 1929) was a politician from the Philippines who was a prominent political figure under the rule of her husband, Ferdinand Marcos. Her husband and she snatched billions of pesos from Filipino population. They built up a fortune of between US$5 and US$10 billion by the year 1986. The practice was later referred to as her "edifice complex". In the time she was in foreign countries, she attended extravagant celebrations and shopping trips. Also, she spent a large amount of money from the State on her personal jewelry, art, and shoe collections, accumulating more than 3,000 pairs of shoes.
