Eye color

Eye color is a multigenic phenotypic character determined by two aspects that are the pigmentation of the iris of the eyes and the frequency-dependence of the scattering of light through the turbid medium in the stroma of the iris.In humans, the pigmentation of the iris ranges from light brown to black, according to the level of melanin in the iris pigment epithelium (located behind the iris) and the amount of melanin within the iris in the stroma (located on the front of the iris), and the cellular density of the stroma. [4] The appearance of blue, green eyes comes due to the Tyndall scattering of light inside the stroma. It is a process like Rayleigh scattering, which is the reason for the blue sky. The human iris and ocular fluid don't contain any blue or green pigments. This is an example of structural color, that depends on lighting conditions, particularly for light-colored eyes. The brightly colored eyes of many birds are due to the presence of different pigments, such as purines, pteridines, and carotenoids. [7] Eye colossal patterns differ between the eyes of animals and humans.
