Johnson accepted an athletic scholarship to play at the University of Miami, one of the country's top college football teams. Johnson was a freshman at the college level and played on the Miami University's 1991 National Championship team. However, he was a part-time player for the majority of the four seasons of college football at the University of Miami as a backup role behind elite players such as Warren Sapp, future NFL star as well as a Pro Football Hall of Fame Inductee. Johnson wanted to play professionally, however he was not selected for the 1995 NFL Draft. After having graduated from the University of Miami in that year, Johnson signed with Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. However Johnson was not selected in the 1995 NFL Draft. Johnson's father Rocky who was a seasoned professional wrestler, assisted to get him a deal with WWF in 1996. Johnson quickly rose to global prominence, aided by a technique he employed as a charismatic and sly trash-talker. Johnson quit WWE in 2004 and came back in the year 2011 as a regular performer, until 2013. He made only sporadic appearances, before retirement in the year the year 2019. He is a 10-time world champion, including the promotion's first of African-American descent. He is also a two-time Intercontinental Champion, a five-time Tag Team Champion, the 2000 Royal Rumble winner, and WWE's sixth Triple Crown champion. Johnson was the main star of the highest-priced pro-wrestling pay-per-view (WrestleMania XXVIII) and was one of the most watched episodes of WWE's most popular television series (Raw and SmackDown)
