Calum Thomas Hood was born the 25th of January 1996. He was raised in Mount Druitt, New South Wales. His father, David Hood, is an ex- Coca-Cola employee, and his mother, Joy Hood, worked in the industry of superannuation. 6. Through his father Hood claims Scottish descent, and through his mother he claims Cook Island Maori origins. Hood is Mali-Koa's younger sibling. Hood recalls his upbringing to be "middle-class" and "not the most glamorous life". 5 Hood was a student at Norwest Primary School where he befriended future band-mate Michael Clifford in the third grade. Hood went to Norwest Christian College for his high school education. He met his future band-mate Luke Hemmings in Year 7 after they had performed Secondhand Serenade covers. However, due to the band's relocation from London in 2012, Hood made the decision to stop playing soccer and focus on music. Hood later said that he was told by his parents that he stopped playing football after about a month. They believed he was making the worst decisions in his entire life. My mom had to throw away all my clothes. And I went home [...] just being like I took one of the most important choices. The decision is now made" When he finished the 12th year of high school, he decided to stop playing football and dropped out of high school in 2012.
