William Henry Cosby Jr. (/kazbi/KOZ-bee 12 July 1937) was an American comedian, actor and media personality. He was a significant contributor to American and African American culture and earned the nickname "America's Dad" because of his portrayal of Cliff Huxtable on The Cosby Show (1984-1992). He was awarded numerous honorary degrees and prizes throughout his career. Some of them were revoked after sexual assault allegations were made against his character in 2014. In the course of his career his stand-up career took off, he released a number of stand-up comedy records that earned him the Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album between 1965 and 1970. He also had a lead part in the crime television show I Spy (1965-1968) opposite Robert Culp. Cosby also starred as Robert Culp in the tv crime drama I Spy (1965-1968). Cosby was in a variety of films in the 1970s, including Sidney Poitier's Uptown Saturday Night (1974), Let's Do It Again (75), and Neil Simon's California Suite (1878).
