In 2008 the Time magazine's Time 100 list included him. The annual list features the top 100 people across the world. Time declared him to be"the "Arabian Warren Buffett". Time described him as "Arabian Warren Buffett". Al Waleed was arrested in Saudi Arabia on November 4, 2017. He was accompanied by other Saudi royalty, which included other billionaires Waleed bin Ibrahim Al Ibrahim Al Ibrahim and Saleh Abullah Kamel. The purge was described by the Saudi government as an anti-corruption campaign.
