Mariah Carey

 Mariah Carey born March 27, 1969)[a] is an American singer as well as songwriter, actress and record producer. She is known as "Songbird Supreme" or "Queen of Christmas" for her five-octave voice and distinctive use of the whistle register and songwriting. Carey became a household name with her debut album. Carey was the first artist to have her first five singles go to the top spot on Billboard's Hot 100. These were "Vision of Love" and "Emotions". Carey was engaged to Tommy Mottola three years later. Carey had additional success with the albums Music Box (1993), Merry Christmas (1994), and Daydream (1995) which featured singles including "Hero", "Without You", "All I Want for Christmas is You", "Fantasy", "Always Be My Baby" and "One Sweet Day", which topped the US Billboard Hot 100 decade-end chart (1990s). Carey changed her image after her split with Mottola and added hip-hop influences to Butterfly (1997). Billboard named Carey the artist of the Decade (1990s), while the World Music Awards recognized her as the top-selling female pop artist of the millennium.

After eleven years of U.S. number one singles, Carey signed a record contract worth $100 million with Virgin Records in 2001. Following her well-publicized physical and emotional breakdown and the failure of her movie Glitter (2001) as well as its soundtrack Virgin signed her contract at $28 million. The following year she signed with Island Records. Carey's album from 2005, The Emancipation of Mimi was a huge success. It was the second best-selling album in America , and the second highest-selling album in the world. The second track, "We Belong Together" was a top hit on the US Billboard Hot 100 decade end chart (2000s). Precious was her 2009 role and she was awarded the Breakthrough Actress performance award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival. The next project she took on was an American Idol judge, starring in the docu-series Mariah's World, appearing in the films The Butler (2013), A Christmas Melody (2015) as well as The Lego Batman Movie (2017), and publishing her memoir in 2020 The Meaning of Mariah Carey.Carey is considered to be one of the most well-known music-makers of her generation and is one of the most successful music artists of all time, having more than 220 million albums worldwide. Her record holds the most Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles by a solo artist, as a female songwriter, and a female producer (15). Carey is the most certified female artist in the United States and 10th overall with 72 million certified album units. She was placed second on VH1's list for the 100 Greatest Women in Music, and in 2019, Billboard named her "top-charting female solo artist" in a ranking based on both album and song chart performances.In 2008, Carey was named one of the 100 most influential performers and entertainers in the world Carey has won five Grammy Awards, 19 World Music Awards and 10, American Music Awards, eight Guinness World Records, and 15 Billboard Music Awards. Inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Carey was inducted in 2022. She is known for her influence on a variety of R&B as well as pop artists, and for her collaborations with other cultures that have helped bring hip pop and hip.
