American musician James Alan Hetfield was born on the 3rd of August in 1963. He is the lead singer, rhythm guitarist, co-founder and a principal songwriter for the heavy metal band Metallica. He is most well-known for his intricate rhythm playing however, he occasionally plays solos and lead guitar, both live and in the studio. After answering an advertisement in The Recycler in Los Angeles, Lars Ulrich asked Hetfield to be a co-founder of Metallica. Metallica has won nine Grammy Awards and released ten studio albums, three live albums, four extended plays and 24 singles.In 2009, Hetfield was ranked at No. Joel McIver's book The 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists ranks Hetfield at the number. 8. The list by Hit Parader of 100 Greatest Metal Vocalists Of All Time comprised 24. According to Guitar World's poll, Hetfield was placed as the 19th best guitarist of all time as well as being placed second (along with Metallica lead guitarist Kirk Hammett) in The 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists poll from the same magazine.Rolling Stone placed him as the 87th best guitarist of all time.
