Yvonne De Carlo

 Yvonne De Carlo (September 1 1922 - January 8, 2007 2007) was a Canadian-American dancer and actress. In the 1940s and 1950s, she became a Hollywood famous. She made many recordings and was later seen on the stage. De Carlo was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. Her mother enrolled her in an local dance academy at age three. The 1940s were the time when De Carlo and her mother moved to Los Angeles. De Carlo was a participant in beauty contests and dancer in nightclubs. In 1941, she began to make motion-pictures on short subjects. In the Soundies musical, she sang "The Lamp of Memory". She signed a contract for three years with Paramount Pictures in 1942. There she was given small roles in some of the most important films. Her first lead was for the independent producer E. B. Derr in the James Fenimore Cooper adventure Deerslayer in 1943.She got her first major part in Salome, Where She Danced (1945) which was a Universal Pictures release produced by Walter Wanger, who described her as "the most beautiful woman in the world. "[1][2][3] The film's publicity and success turned her into an international star and she signed an agreement for five years with Universal. She was the main character in a variety of Technicolor productions produced by Universal, including Frontier Gal (1945), Song of Scheherazade (477) and Slave Girl (477) Cameramen elected her "Queen of Technicolor" three years in three years. [4] Tired of being portrayed as exotic, she made her first dramatic appearances in two noir films, Brute Force (1947) and Criss Cross (1949).The first American film star to visit Israel, De Carlo received further recognition as an actress due to her performance in the British comedy films Hotel Sahara (1951), The Captain's Paradise (1953), and Happy Ever After (1954). She was chosen to play Moses' Midianite wife Sephora by Cecil B. DeMille (1956). In recognition of this role she received a Laurel Award as Topliner Supporting Actress. Her career was booming with some other noteworthy starring roles, including Flame of the Islands (1956), Death of a Scoundrel (1956), Band of Angels (1957), and The Sword and the Cross (1958), in which she played Mary Magdalene.
