Robert Matthew Van Winkle (born October 31st in 1967) is known as Vanilla Ice, is an American rapper, actor and host of a television show. Ice was born in South Dallas and raised in Texas and South Florida. He released Hooked in 1989. In 1990, he signed a contract with SBK Records. This record label, which is part of EMI Group's EMI Group, released a Remastered version of To the Extreme in 1990. It included Ice's most famous hits, "Ice Ice Baby" and also an original cover of "Play That Funky Music". Ice Ice Baby was the first hip-hop single to reach the top spot on the Billboard charts. He was born in South Dallas , and raised in Texas and Florida. In 1989, Ice released Hooked, his debut album. SBK Records, a record label that is owned by the EMI Group entered into a partnership with Ice. The reformatted version of To the Extreme was released in 1990 under the name To the Extreme. It included Ice's most-loved hits, such as "Ice Ice Baby" and a cover of "Play That Funky Music". The appearance of the soundtrack and a live album called Extremely Live, continued the success, but an album released in the mainstream market, Mind Blowin', featured an image change which saw a massive drop in popularity for Ice, and his subsequent albums, Hard to swallow, Bi-Polar and Platinum Underground, failed to chart or receive much radio airplay. In 2009, Ice began hosting The Vanilla Ice Project on DIY Network.
