Tracy Morgan

Morgan was born in Brooklyn on the 10th of November 1968. He grew up in the Brooklyn's Marlboro Houses, Tompkins Houses, and Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhoods. His parents were Alicia Warden who was a homemaker, as well as Jimmy Morgan, a musician, who was a part of the family when he was six years old. Morgan was given the name Tracy by his father to honor his platoon friend and platoonmate who was sent to Vietnam with his. The soldier was killed a few days after. Morgan attended DeWitt Clinton High School. At the age of 17 Morgan was informed that his father was infected with HIV by using hypodermic needles. His father, who was 38 years old passed away in January 1987. Morgan got married to Sabina the girl he was with that year. He quit high school with just four credits to earn his diploma in order to take care of his father who was ill. Following the murder of his best friend, Morgan began making money by performing on the streets as a comic. In 2009, he stated to me: "He would tell me, Tracy, man you ought to be performing comedy." He was killed the next week. This was my Vietnam. As I started to achieve success I was afflicted with a feeling of guilt over my survival. What I did that made me successful and why others did not. Morgan moved from his poor apartment close to Yankee Stadium in the Bronx to a new neighborhood in Riverdale.
