Marilyn Monroe (/maer@lIn m@n@roU/ Marilyn Monroe (born Norma Jeane Mortenson, June 1, 1926 - August 4 1962), was an American actress. Famous for playing humorous "blonde bombshell" characters, she was one of the most well-known sexual icons of the 1950s and early 1960s, as well as an emblem of the sexual revolution of the time. The films she made earned her 200 million dollars, which is equivalent to $2 billion in 2021. Monroe was a celebrity for more than a decade. [3] Long after her death, Monroe remains a major celebrity in pop culture. In 1999, the American Film Institute ranked her sixth on their list of greatest female screen legends from the Golden Age of Hollywood. Multiple film critics and media publications have pointed out Monroe as being among the top actors to never receive an Academy Award nomination. Monroe was born in Los Angeles and spent her childhood in 12 foster homes and an orphanage. She got married at the age of 16. When World War II broke out the Monroe was employed in an industrial facility. She was introduced to a photographer from First Motion Picture Unit. This led to a short-lived career as a pin-up model. After a series of minor film roles and a change of contract with Fox in the latter half of 1950. She became a well-known actress for the next two decades, with roles in numerous comedies like As Young as You Feel, Monkey Business, as also in the dramatic films Clash by Night, and Don't Forget to Knock. Even though she was involved in scandal after it was revealed that she had taken naked photos before becoming a star but the scandal didn't affect her career. Instead, it led to increased interest in her films.
