Statham began practising Chinese martial art, kickboxing, and karate in his youth when he worked at the local market stalls. A fervent diver and football player Statham was a part of Britain's national diving squad and also competed for England at the 1990 Commonwealth Games. Statham was then requested to appear in a variety of commercials for Levi's and Tommy Hilfiger and French Connection. His experience at market stalls was the inspiration for his appearance for the Guy Ritchie crime films Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) and Snatch (2000).The commercial success of these films led Statham to be cast as Frank Martin in the Transporter trilogy (2002-2008). He was a Hollywood star after starring in a number of action-thrillers and heists such as Crank (2006) and War (2007). He has also appeared in movies that were commercially and critically unsuccessful and commercially unsuccessful, such as Revolver (2006), Chaos (2005) and In the Name of the King (2008). He appeared in the ensemble action series The Expendables (2010), Furious 7 (2015), The Fate of the Furious (2017), Wild Card (2013) and F9 (2021). He was a part of Fast & Furious 6 (2013) and Furious 7 (2015). F9 (2021), The Fate of the Furious (2017). The spin-off Fast & Furious Presents, Hobbs & Shaw (2019) also included Deckard Shaw. He was acknowledged as a co-producer on Hobbs & Shaw, receiving his first production credit.
