 Kemper was the second child of Dorothy Ann Jannarone (nee Jannarone) and David Woods Kemper. He is the son of one the richest families of Missouri. Her father is the chairman of the executive board at Commerce Bancshares. This bank holding company was established by the Kemper families. She is the granddaughter of Mildred Lane Kemper, namesake of the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum at Washington University in St. Louis and the great-great-granddaughter of banker, insurance man, and railroad magnate William Thornton Kemper Sr.She is the elder sister of television writer Carrie Kemper. Kemper is of Italian (from her maternal grandfather), English, French and German heritage. Kemper is an Roman Catholic who was raised. Kemper was a debutante in The Veiled Prophet Ball in the year 1999 [7]. Kemper was then named the Veiled prophet's Queen of Love and Beauty. Due to the Ball's "racist" as well as "elitist background, her participation in 2021 sparked controversy. [9][10] Kemper issued a statement decrying white superiority and apologizing for her involvement at the event. Kemper stated that she was not aware of the past events that took place at the Ball, which she considered racist, sexist and elitist.
