Venus Ebony Starr Williams (born on the 17th of June 1980)is an American professional tennis player. Former world number. 1 in both singles and doubles, Williams has won seven Grand Slam singles titles, five at Wimbledon and two at the US Open.She is widely considered to be one of the greatest players of tennis. The Williams family, including her parents Oracene and Richard Williams coached Venus Williams as did her younger sister Serena. In 1994, she became professional and made it to her first major final in the 1997 US Open. Between 2000 and 2001, Williams claimed the Wimbledon and US Open titles, as in addition to Olympic singles gold at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Williams reached the singles world number one ranking for the first time 25 February 2002. She reached the singles world No. 1 ranking on February 25 2002. This was her first major achievement during the Open period, and her second place after Althea Gibson. The eight-time champion reached four major finals consecutively between 2002 and 2003 however, she lost to Serena. Due to injuries, she was unable to win one major title between 2003-2006. Williams was back at her best in 2007 taking home Wimbledon the following year, a feat she repeated the following year. She was ranked as No. 2 in the world singles rankings in 2010. she was 2nd in singles, but fell again after suffering from injuries. She began to slowly return to form in 2014 and culminated with two big finals performances at Wimbledon in 2017 and the Australian Open in 2014.
