The Lord of the Rings is a trilogy of three epic fantasy adventure films, directed by Peter Jackson, based on the novel The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien. The films have subtitles: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), The Two Towers (2002) The Two Towers (2002), and The Return of the King (2003). The series was created and released by New Line Cinema in collaboration with WingNut Films. It is an international collaboration that spans New Zealand, America and New Zealand. The film stars an ensemble cast which includes Elijah Wood and Ian McKellen as well as Liv Tyler and Viggo Mortensen. Cate Blanchett and John Rhys-Davies are the producers and distributors. Frodo continues his journey with Sam, his faithful friend, and the dangerous Gollum. Aragorn is the heir in exile from the throne of Gondor and the Elf Legolas and the dwarf Gimli, Merry and Pippin team up to save the Free Peoples of Middle-earth and rally them for the War of the Ring in attempt to deter Sauron.
