Self-esteem is a belief in one's capabilities and self-worth. Self-esteem is a belief about oneself, like "I have been loved", or "I'm worthy" and feelings like despair, triumph and confidence. Smith and Mackie (2007) defined the concept as "The self-concept" that is the way we perceive ourselves. Self-esteem refers to our self-assessments, or our feelings about it. Self-esteem is a mental concept that can predict certain outcomes, like academic success and happiness, marital satisfaction as well as criminal conduct. Self-esteem may be applied to a single attribute or to all. Psychologists believe that self-esteem is an unaffected personality trait (trait-self-esteem) however, there are also regular temporary variations. Self-esteem is often referred to as a synonym or near-synonym include self-worth, selfregard Self-esteem, self-esteem, and self-integrity.
