Paul Anka

  Paul Anka recorded his first single, "I Confess", at the age of 14. In 1956, with a sum of $100 that was given to him by his uncle, he travelled to New York City where he auditioned for Don Costa at ABC Records and sang the widely-reported to be a love-struck song he had written to the former babysitter. In 2005, he stated that he had sent the lyrics to a girl in his church who he didn't have any idea about. The song by Anka "Diana" that resulted in the No. 1 position it was a huge hit. It reached No. 1 in both the US as well as Canadian music charts. "Diana" is one of the top-selling singles ever by any Canadian musician. He followed it up with four songs that made it to the Top 20 in 1958, including "It's Time to Cry", which hit No. 4. Then there was "(All of a Sudden) My Heart Sings", which was ranked No. 15 in the charts and made him one of the most popular teen idols of the day. He performed in Britain, then Australia along with Buddy Holly. Anka also composed "It Doesn't matter anymore" which was a song she composed for Holly and which Holly recorded shortly before his death in 1959. Anka later wrote:
